How do you get most out of "measure for m" inscription ? - Guild Wars Forums

Question as per title of thread

Wiki just says you should use it with a jeweled item & use an expert salvage kit ?

I also recall reading a post where someone said "you can get about 1k out of them if you know what you are doing"

Advise appreciated ( did a quck search here on "measure" here but couldn't see anything on first page of search results )

People advetise to buy these for 250-300g so obvously there is a way to get something from them worth more than that

Salvage one right?

I found that it only works on the item that it originally came off.

If you salvage it off and put it on something else, it don't work. Tried it before. Took it off something and put it on a gold that I was planning on selling. Tried salvaging it, and only got 5 Wood Planks out of it.

But if I salvage the item it came with, it actually works. It's the same with "Show Me The Money!". Took it off an item and put it on another item, and the price didn't change.

So in my testing, they only work for the item that it originally was attached to. Not sure if anyone else had different results, but that's how it works for me.

you put it specifically on jeweled daggers or ruby maul,or other items like that.(skip jeweled staffs)
increases chance of obtaining a ruby/sapphire/diamond.
works on items from vabbi best it seems.

Lots of items give chances for rare cerafting materials, and that inscription will give you a better chance of getting the rare material instead of the common one. I find shields to give me a better return than the jeweled/ruby items, but that may just be my luck. Iridescent Aegis, Diamod Aegis, etc give me a gem more often than the jeweled/ruby items do, and at times I get 2 from 1 item.

However, don't limit yourself to rare materials as a profit source. If you learn what items give which materials consistently, you can get LARGE amounts of materials with a standard salvage kit. For instance, the Great Conch shields only drop in Tactics, and few people like the skin, do you won't get anything trying to sell them. Salvaging one can get you between
20-40 Piles of Glittering Dust. However, when I use a Measure for Measure on one, I can get between 60-80 piles. Same holds for Granite and Iron from various sources, although they don't get you numbers as high as 60-80.

And since common materials sell for decent amounts, sometimes it is easily worth acquiring them.

And last thing I'll say, ignore they comment about them only working on the item it dropped on. I have removed the inscription and placed it on a new item MANY times and always gotten a better return. This includes larger amount of common materials and rare materials both. The Show Me the Money inscription will increase the value of an item, but I have never seen it increase the value very much.

I've never quite figured out how that one works. Is it a random, small fixed amount that it adds to the price, or does it boost the price by a percentage? In the first case, you might as well leave it on the item it came with; adding 20g to a 100g item or moving it to add 20g to a 300g item still only gets you 20g. In the second case, it might be worth salvaging them from blues or grapes and adding them to high priced gold items you intend to merch. Either way, though, the added value doesn't seem worth the trouble to me, so I never bother salvaging those inscriptions.

It basically add's around 100g onto the price (show me the money).

But yes it's best to put the inscription on items with the word jeweled in the name (NOT jeweled staff's) or things like ruby mauls, ruby daggers etc. You can get up to 3 Rubys, Sapphires or Diamonds if im not much mistaken.

Also, Spyder i don't know if you had some kind of glitch there but it always works with me.

I put one a gold Iridescent Shield and it salvaged to ONE pile of glittering dust (I suspect it rolled over 250 back to one).

keep in mind you must use EXPERT salvage kit or better to have any chance of rare or increased materials.

Nothing drops that much materials.

to the thread:: doesnt the AR or Damage need to be maxed to get maxed effect from kits? makes sense to me cuz you get lower amounts in lower lvl areas, or maybe it relies on foe lvl?

I just used the measure for measure on a r11 tactics great conch (gold) and got 132 piles of glittering dust. I used the normal salvage kit, not expert salvage. if you dont believe it, try it yourself. They drop like crazy when farming raptor nestlings.

you can get a stack of dust out of 2 to 3 conches which sells for 3k, theres your profit. and you can take the inscription off something and put it on a conch, I do it all the time.

Yes, the highest amount I ever got was 186 piles from 1 Great COnch shield. I listed 60-80 to be safe, as I don't always get 100+ from them. They do provide far more dust than any other item I have salvaged for dust though.

Starfish Focus also salvages a high amount of dust with MfM. Pulled ~90 from a purple. They drop from EotN Wind Riders, and there's a large group of them by the Rata Sum portal in Magus Stones.
